Duncan Dowson CBE, FREng, FRS (born 31 August 1928) is a British engineer, and professor emeritus at the University of Leeds. ==Life== Dowson was educated at Lady Lumley's School and studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Leeds from which he holds the degrees of BSc, PhD and DSc. Dowson was Professor of Engineering Fluid Mechanics and Tribology in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Leeds. He was also Pro-Vice-Chancellor at Leeds from 1983 to 1985. He retired in 1993 with the title Emeritus Professor.〔(University of Leeds, List of Emeritus Professors )〕 Dowson was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) in 1987.〔(Duncan Dowson ), Royal Society Fellow page, last accessed 2015-10-28.〕 He was made a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1989.〔(University of Leeds, Details of honorary graduates )〕 He was elected a Fellow for the Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng) in 1982.
